There must be variables. SCwTiger and I fished all day Saturday with a non-functioning livewell. The crappie barely had enough water in there to move around. 18 plus two Kentucky's and maybe one died.

I watched a podcast recently where a University of Oklahoma crappie expert stated that a large majority of crappie will eventually die from stress after catch n release tournament situations

Probably just the fish they pulled from their hoop nets/pier fish baskets died. Tournaments are a joke.

Most fish were caught pretty deep along the channel

Ours were 14-20 feet and white as a ghost when caught. After a while in the box,they got good color.
