I think He probably doesn’t have the best reputation as a HC.

I could Easily see him being a career DC

Especially at the salary we are paying him.

This is not true. A P5 Coach that can deliver nothing but 9-10 win seasons is above average. Going to the National Championship game at Youngstown is above average. Despite the lackluster last 2 years, Youngstown extended his contract.

I agree.

Pelini is a passionate guy with an explosive personality. This is great in a DC. But crossing the administration, fan base, and sports writers has potential negative consequences for HCs.

The DC position diminishes the down and increases the up sides to these traits. Defending your players against all comers increases loyalty and emotional inspiration is particularly useful on defense.

His age and past experience has possibly diminished his aspirations of another HC position like Aranda rightfully had. Combine that with great pay and I see him a long term DC as long as successful.

Let’s hope everything I just wrote is true.
