This year will probably be a banner year for crawfish. Before this week we haven't had a "freeze" since November, and even that was mild. We boiled last week and the size is already there. Will probably go for round 2 this weekend.

Without question the warm winter has greatly enhanced early crawfish growth, and subsequent catch. Not surprising prices are dropping as people don’t eat mega quantities of boiled crawfish in Jan, and those live crawfish being caught by farmers need to be moved, and processing plants haven’t ramped up peeling yet - have wait for their H1-B visa peeling labor to arrive.

Prices will traditionally bump up somewhat Super Bowl weekend as demand increases with Super Bowl parties.
