Does LA WLF use drones to check in on duck hunters?

We saw a drone over our marsh in Vermilion Parish on Saturday and Sunday morning. It was very high (so I don't think it was trying to scare up ducks), moving very slow, and seemed to fly the same route on both mornings. We texted the people we know that also hunt the area and they all said it wasn't them.
Chances it could be the green jeans?

Wouldn't shock me.
The law uses night vision goggles in Washington state for night time razor clam digs.
I've seent it.

could have been an aerial mapping drone. They fly gps flight patterns.

Years ago, the authorities had tethered balloons with cameras stationed out over the marsh along the coastline watching for drug boats. I would think that they've progressed to drones by now. Not saying that's what the ones you saw were, but its a possibility.

Could it have been something to map out properties for the county/parish?

quote:sure. Bunch of companies are doing this. Local assessors office could tell you if they're mapping.

Could at least give a notice of when it’s up in the air of the property.
A lot of land brokers do it to sell land tracts.

Could be. They have drones and use them for oyster related cases.

Yes they do, as well as deer hunters. They have a entire dept. dedicated to surveillance. Just one of many many tools

Hopefully he is a better shot than you

More than likely yes. They are using drones with both visual and thermal imaging. So they can now tell if any warm bodies are hunting before and after legal shooting hours as well.

there were several of these deployed over the wax lake delta area for many years. regarding the drones, if green jeans isn't using them, they are nuts
what you rather do if you were an agent:
1) get up before dawn, get cold and wet running around at eye level looking/listening for violations, and then have to chase down & confront a redneck with a shotgun
2) sit in a warm dry office piloting a drone, and then relay coordinates/track the violator to the launch or camp

I know a guy who has a federal commercial grouper permit in Florida (Sarasota) who swears this a true story. He was fishing in federal waters and had a bunch of fish on ice. Stopped on a reef in state waters and caught a couple, filleted them and iced them down for supper that evening (a lot of grouper fisherman say grouper is better if filleted immediately and iced down for several hours. I like it anyway I can get it!). Headed for the hill and was met just inside the bay by Florida FWS....they had received a video from MacDill AFB taken from a drone of old boy fishing in state waters and filleting the catch at sea. He had a state license and the season was open but they knew he was also commercial fishing in federal water and curious about what he was doing in state waters. He wasn't ticketed or anything but it was pretty spooky knowing how technology has made things like that possible. It may not be a true story though because this same guy swears he and 4 buddies caught so many dolphin off Jacksonville once that they dropped the market price on the entire Atlantic coast

I remember seeing those blimp looking balloons during the 90's on the way to Cypremort Point.
