Dave Aranda says the interest mainly came from UNLV earlier this month. He says he engaged because he is interested in being a head coach, but it was mainly dipping his toes in the water. #LSU

He deserves to be. He’s been a top coordinator in college football for years. It’s all about the right fit, for him and his family.

I think he thought his “stock” went down this year and he wanted to explore opportunities before they dried up. The thing is, though, if he puts together two great performances in the next two games (and there will be a second game if LSU’s defense plays well vs OU) everyone will forget about the early season struggles.

Nick Saban advised Kirby Smart to wait for the right opportunity. Of course it was self-serving, but it was good advice. The mid-market teams were knocking down the door for Smart, but he waited until a blue ribbon team came calling. That’s what Aranda should do. But if he wants that blue ribbon offer, I think he needs to be more outgoing and less professorial.

He probably won't be around much longer. It's not the end of the world. LSU pays coordinators as well as any school in the country and will be able to attract a top notch replacement.

It’s difficult for me to picture him as a head coach.

Looks like the defense slipped this season because he was focused on job shopping.

Most of y'all wanted him gone at various points during this season.

He's just sending feelers out and will get mentioned for various jobs but he knows he can do better than UNLV.

I'd say next year will be his last here, it's a natural progression.

Arkansas and Ole Miss had head coaching opportunities open up and was Aranda even considered. Neither one of those schools are top tier jobs but better than say UNLV.

And he will.

The coaching tree for Orgeron is developing.

Just hope he can continue to grow those branches

Ideal situation: muschamp gets fired the same year Aranda takes a head job

All I know is that replacing coordinators makes for a glorious time on the rant..
Shoop was 90 percent done deal.
Then fell through and I wasn't exactly excited about Steele, but was happy we were bringing O back home.
I melted hard over Ensminger.
Thought Canada was a great hire.
Aranda was definitely the best of the bunch. Miles certainly nailed that one.

I really think he ends up at a P5 school that is going to be happy with a 9-3 type season in the good years. I think he will want to implement a system and field a competitive team. I just dont see him recruiting hard enough to be an elite team, but I think his detail, his approach and his football a IQ could be a real good fit at a school like Mich State, TTU, VTech...something like that.

Good. They are plenty of average DC's out there that we can get for less than 2.5 million. BYE!!

He’ll make a good head coach and can do much better than UNLV. It’s a good opportunity for him to showcase his defense in the playoffs.
