Total points or yards is a terrible indicator of how well a defense plays. If our offense is scoring quickly, then the other team is going to have more opportunities for their offense. Points per play, or points per possession is a much more accurate indicator of how well the defense is playing.
LSU is 35th in opponents points per play
LSU is 46th in opponents passing yards per attempt
LSU is 15th in opponents rushing yards per attempt
Ohio State is at or near the top in the above mentioned categories, but we have a better strength of schedule, so you have to factor that in.
