Make up a batch of coon grease. Mix 1 large jar of vaseline, 1 bottle red pepper flakes, and 1 bottle cayenne pepper. Use latex gloves and smear it all over/around the feeder and below feeder however you have it mounted. The coon will get the grease on his paws, he licks/eats it off his paws to remove it and the pepper lights him up. You may have to refresh it from time to time, but it works and is cheap coon prevention. Later on when you get a tripod feeder, smear it on the legs.

question of the coon grease - it may work for the coons but what will the hogs do to the tripod- you know they will try the grease- any experience ???
