Yesterday had to have her put to sleep and was sad but fine for the most part. Took her home and buried her. Said the goodbyes with family.Guess for the kids and all that.

Then this morning 530am getting out of bed with no greeting from her I lost it and broke down completely. I guess it was the break in the routine of me and her and morning coffee just the two of us.

Terrible losing a member of your household. Sorry just wanted to vent anonymously been in a fog today.

Know the feeling bro. Its rough. Just think about all the joy she brought you and remember the good times. You will get better over time. Hang in there bro..

Sorry for your loss. We had to do this last year and it was very hard. Take some time to grieve and get another pet...trust me, it helps a lot!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I rarely like anything I see on Facebook, but I saw this the other day and it made me smile thinking about our family dog we had to put down.

If the kindest souls lived the longest, dogs would outlive us all.

Sorry for your loss.

Don't be sorry about needing to vent about that. It is one of the most painful things a person can go through, and most of us have been through it. Never gets better or easier.

Sorry for your loss. Hope you will soon give another animal a happy life.

Anyone here who has been through it completely understands. You've lost a good friend.

We put our dog down this morning. One of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I was fine right up until she went to sleep. It all hit me like a ton of bricks. She was a part of our crew for 15 years.

I will cry when I have to put ours down. Everyone does.

I like the Last battle poem better than the Rainbow bridge.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Sorry to hear this. Go get another dog. The sooner the better for you and a dog that needs a good owner.

and no man, you didn't "Lose the family pet"

As the poem states you did the right thing by him/her as a loyal loving family member to end the needless suffering awaiting your pup. Cudos for being a good pet owner.

It is such a devastating loss, I know from experience. What kind of dog was she? I'm very sorry. For me, getting another dog quickly is always the best medicine, but not everyone agrees.

I’ve done it many times & it’s looking like I will be doing it again soon

It’s one of the most selfless things a person can do
It will get better with time, then something will trigger a memory & you will break down again, but eventually those memories will bring smiles

I am so very sorry for your loss

Our first dog was 17 when it was time to let her go
I honestly didn’t think we would ever be ok (parents & adult brother) until 2 weeks later my mom picked a dog up off the side of the road who was in bad shape
Helping to take care of her gave us something to focus on instead of our grief
