A) The point remains, I’ve never seen a single post on this board complaining about any type of imperfect depiction of reality except along racial lines, despite the fact that some type of misrepresentation is present in virtually every TV ad. AKA, selective outrage.


B) The FCC still doesn’t have a single anti-stereotyping regulation, yet the whole premise of your OP and this thread is that they are driving the changing demographics we see in ads through exactly that medium. AKA, invented outrage.

Wrong. The point of this thread is the alternative cause of a subject much discussed here. That alternative is govt instead of corporate genesis. I thought it was pretty obvious but maybe you're a tad slow.

Funny thing is that this type of convo seems to come up since it's been seen by many years ago, who were berated as racists. Not tea-leaf reading realists.

Reminds me a comment in a gay marriage thread yesterday, where there was a comment about being for it back when it was going through the courts, but the poster has no realized how mistaken he was.

Many just have a problem seeing last their noses.

Like it or not, there is a large subset of our society that consumes on the basis of social stances. Corporate virtue signaling is nothing more than the modern equivalent of corporate charity donations. 15 years ago, a firm would donate a million dollars to charity in order to be able to tell customers that they donated to charity. That ingratiated them to their consumer base and allowed them to sell more goods. Now that same firm instead spends a million dollars in ‘woke’ ads for exactly the same reason; it ingratiates them to a subset of consumers and allows them to sell more.


These firms aren’t trying to push you out of society. They’re just selling products. So do you see how there is no difference between a company overselling their product and a company showing that they support ‘positive’ social change? They are both marginally misrepresenting reality in order to sell more.

It's still different from overhyping a product, though. One is social engineering and the other isn't. Whether the genesis of this is from the companies, or a portion of the country wanting to see it, at the end of the day its social engineering.

If that "large subset of our society" wants to see social change let them be apart of it. You want to see more representation of interracial couples? Do your part by marrying someone of a different race. I have no issue with interracial marriages. I do have issue with SJW's trying to change society by complaining alone.
