I'm in the minority on TD in the fact that I don't have a problem with people who are transgendered. I don't believe it is a mental illness like most of you. I believe the body formed different from the brain. But 10 years old is young to make life long decisions.

There are cases where children are born with multiple sex organs and or other physical abnormalities and surgical decisions are made early that are mistakes. There may also be cases like you suggest that the body and the brain really dont match. So I do think that true cases of essentially being born in the wrong body probably do exist.
But there are also cases of true mental illness or extreme fetishism where the individual remains attracted to the opposite sex but has an overwhelming desire to engage sexually as another gender. Fetishes are fine but they start to cross the line when it involves radical surgeries. These are the people that often commit suicide after sex reassignment surgery and need to psychological help
