That's right, UGA gets the spot because they won.

Look it up, no one used to have "wildcards" until TV started generating so much revenue.
But a tournament of champions is the most fair way to determine the field. for a playoff. There are no "opinion polls" to bias towards popular teams, all the conferences get a chance to participate in the playoff, making it more representative. It would just be best for college football, imo.
