Realistically, I want LSU to remain outside of #1/2 Ranking

I know everyone has a deep love for our Tigers & want all the "respect" we deserve, or think we deserve. But truly, being ranked #1 IN-season has rarely worked out for us, let alone MOST championship programs.

The sports psychology of reaching #1/National Champion is a lot more of a drive than being #1 & waiting for someone to come along to challenge you to knock you off.

I firmly believe in chasing that goal over being #1, particularly early in the season. Complacency is an evil mf'er that sneaks up on even the toughest of badasses. Being moved to #1 in the final weeks/conference championship game area is a natural by-product & I'm obviously cool with that.

But there's just something special about the "they keep doubting us" mentality that I think is the edge that gets us to the title this year & any yeat, for that matter.

You won’t have to worry about that for a while. Clemson and Bama will remain ahead until either lose. And we can only control one of them losing.

These early season rankings are meaningless. Literally.

So your theory is we should be LSU not #1?

That’s insane.

We are trying to build a brand. Part of it is recruiting. We haven’t been able to recruit a top notch QB who has actually won games in ages.

Our most successful QB’s for a decade have been transfers. We have lost in state 5* and 4* kids at other positions to a team that is seen as a #1 type program.

Perception is reality getting the #1 ranking is nothing but positive.

That’s stupid. If you are #1 and are the best team and deserve the ranking why would you want anything less?

It’s all in your head. How many teams complete a season undefeated? It’s inevitable that 99% of teams will lose at some point, so relating that to a #1 ranking is useless. Besides, the season comes down to beating Bama and everyone knows it, that holds a helluva lot more weight than some arbitrary ranking.

Ideally, it’s best to remain below the radar but it’s not feasible.
Realistically, as long as they win and put up big numbers, they’re going to be ranked high.

The trick is ignoring the rankings and playing each play like it’s your last
