and where are the best places to park? Where are the tailgates and what is the policy regarding alcohol at said tailgates? I also don't want to mooch off of anyone serving food at the tailgates, so I was wondering if there were any places to eat around campus during this time?

Not sure about parking. That situation seems to change yearly, if not monthly. I live close to campus in BR so I usually will ride my bike, get an uber or just walk if the weather is nice.

As for tailgate rules, fear of mooching, etc. just forget about it. If you're not a dick and you approach a tailgate telling them its your first game, you're a La. native who left for Katrina, etc., 99/100 tailgates will welcome you with open arms, feed you and shower you with alcohol. That said, it never hurts to bring a little cooler or bottle of your own.

Since you will have your somewhat older parents with you I'd advise staying in the general area of the parade ground/fraternity row/the quad. That means easier access to bars and restaurants on highland road and chimes street where yall can cool down. City Slice and The Chimes are a couple spots right there with good food and drink.
