Do I really need to explain why a early 20s women would rather live inside of Houston vs a plant baw burb?

First time I lived in Houston I was in my 20”s and lived Uptown. I hated it because I was spending way too much time in traffic because my work was across town. I45 at 610 on the south loop is under heavy construction. She will be spending a ton of time in traffic and around all the homeless in the area if she decides to live in Mid town.

If I were her starting a new job in a new city I would start out in a place near my work then if unhappy move to mid town, up town, downtown etc..

So like every other 20-something.

If that's the case then she should live near work to start out. Try to sign a shorter lease.

If she doesnt like it then move into Houston.

80% of her waking time will be spent at work anyways.

Uptown sucks unless you work in the galleria. If she picks the right area to live and still be close to down, Herman park/midtown area, then you might have a better outcome.

Living in league city with no friends at 22 would blow

Unless OP is leaving out that his daughter doesn't like being around people her age, she won't like it and would be moving again.

Theres actually a pretty decent nightlife in the Kemah area. Lot of hip bars and that sort. A lot more to do than the baw towns of Louisiana.

If she’s working at the Space Center, I’d have her live around there at first. Let her get her bearings, this is a huge city. If she has friends inside the loop, she can stay with them on weekends and do the fun night life. Sign a short lease, let her get adjusted to work and the area first. When she learns her way around, then she can decide where she really wants to be. League City, Friendswood and Clear Lake are all good. Kemah would be fine.

those were my thoughts but the OT made some really good suggestions.
I am completely clueless what it would be like to live in a huge city so the insight was really helpful. But at the end of the day it is her doing the living so it is her choice.

I lived in the Heights for a few years after graduation. My commute to Pasadena was a little over an hour, which kinda sucked... but I didn't have to be at work for a certain time so it didn't matter. I'd highly recommend the Heights or Midtown for someone her age.

I would encourage living in the Museum District. It's just south of midtown and north of hermann park. It's near Rice University. Nice quiet area of town, but still very close to food and bars.

commute to Johnson is 30 min in the morning and probably 45 driving back into the city after work at 5

She doing shift work, so estimating her commute as 9-5 isnt accurate. Sounds like a nurse.

Its splitting hairs ultimately but I'm just thinking about the night shifts where she has to drive home at 8am in the morning.

I'm not trying to get that granular, but I do think it's in the sweet spot in terms of being a solid, nice area with good apartments 10 min or so from midtown/downtown and Rice Village, and on the southern end of the loop, which helps for the commute.

There are areas on the southside of downtown and midtown that are very dangerous. She will almost certainly be passing through some of those areas if she chooses to live inside the loop. Just make her and yourself aware of where these areas are located.
