I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing.. when i frequented Siesta Key, it was called Red Tide, and they would usually have an episode for week or two every summer; last year it lasted six months and was devastating to local businesses/tourism.

Not sure why i’ve never heard the term Red Tide used in relation to the Panhandle.. with any luck, people there will not become familiar with it because it sucks, makes the beaches completely unusable and makes tourists very sick.

This outbreak that most are talking about is from the Miss river dumping freshwater for several months into lake pontchatrain and over towards the beach on the western coast of MS.
I haven't heard of any issues Biloxi or east of there.
