I won't say most. Increasingly, Android phones ship with locked bootloaders and such devices cannot be rooted or have a custom rom installed.

True, and Apple isn't exactly a bastion of conservatism. The question is more along the lines of if something is baked into the Android cake provided by Google that it takes a custom rom to eliminate or if getting rid of select APKs is sufficient.

I've been looking into this option, but I'm far from tech savy and don't want to screw my phone up.
