I think at this point we should only take deals that are stupid overpays in our favor. Like turning one asset into three assets down the road, etc.

That's what the well run teams do. They have enough margin for error that they are able to wait for the right opportunity to come along.

I also think we as fans are looking too much for finished products when part of what this new front office is supposed to be improving is scouting and player development. Get Turner, who is essentially a role playing starter, or take a shot on Garland who has star potential and find a player using cheaper assets to develop into a solid stretch 5? This FO should be doing the latter.
