Spank you (appropriate I suppose). How the youngest went was a bit rough. Makes you feel like less of a man and pet owner. An unfortunate result of the building / flooding between the river and Highland Rd, it seems. Forced the coyotes to higher ground. I fell asleep on my work about midnight, and failed to lock the doggy door and bring the pups to the bedroom. I imagine the youngest went outside to investigate a noise or something he saw outside, and that was all she wrote.

In my family I'm the guy that digs the holes when my siblings or other family can't, but these cases are a little different. Every hole I've dug was either my dog who had lived a good life or a friend / family members who had generally done the same. That, and not the dog that transitioned me from Reggies to Freds to Chimes to Engagement to Marriage to Kids to Wherever the F I am today.
