It sucks to lose a dog. Losing two in a month sucks worse.

I lost my youngest and smallest dog to a coyote two weeks ago. Now my oldest dog (~13 years old) is having seizures. Never had one before Tuesday in the wee hours. Had another this evening. Multiple vet trips and his blood work and other metrics look great. All signs point to a brain tumor and at this point we'll wait and see what happens in the next week.

I'm supposed to leave Friday morning for a Disney cruise (trashy, yes I know) but F that noise. Wife (no pics) is unhappy with that sentiment but this dog, over the last 12+ years, has taken me from single life, to married life, to children. There's no way I would leave him in this state under anybody's care or watch other than my own. If any decision has to be made, I don't want it to be anybody else's but mine, and I want to be there. ^@(*&@$@@#$(&*

You don’t want a good dog to seize and aspirate. Especially if you’re not there.

Put the good dog down before you go. The trip will help you a bit

My dog had some issues around age 14-15. She recovered and made it to 17.

When the time came I knew it, it was completely different than the previous episodes. Took her to the vet the next day. Best not to prolong it.

This may or may not apply to you're situation, because of the brain tumor and all, but the dog will let you know. They are very aware of when it's their time.

And sorry, it does really suck.

Put him down before you go. If you don’t the entire trip you will be thinking “I wonder if he is still on this earth right now.” The ending is inevitable, so get it over with. Sorry hear that though, it sucks.

hits close to home for me. I had to make that decision a little over a month ago for my 10 y/0 German Shepherd, she was fine one day and had a tumor rupture that we were unaware of and had to be put down. Its never a fun time, but at least that dont have to suffer.

We lost two 7 weeks apart 9 years ago, and it was quite awful. Sorry for what you are going thru.

The life of a dog is way too short for the impact that they make on our lives.

I am sorry to hear what you are going through. I put my dog down three days ago. It destroys me losing a dog. I've had several dogs in my life and it never gets any easier letting go.

I hope the vet can figure something out that allows you to spend more years with your friend.

I lost two within 5 days of each other. I had both since I was 12 and lost them when I was 29 just last July.

Totally unrelated issues, and they went 5 days apart.

It’s rough, but it helped me knowing so many people go through the same thing and my dogs had a good life.

Sorry about your dog, I lost mine after 16 years two weeks ago. if he was a kid, he would have been driving. Was my buddy for almost half of my life.

Prayers for you and your family.

I feel for ya man. I lost 2 dogs within a month. One to old age and the other had liver issues. Throw the 2016 flood in that month and losing most of my shite, It took me a minute to get over it.

I am living your nightmare. On vacation now and kennel called to say our dog threw up and collapsed. The next call was from them at the animal ER, tumor and abdominal bleeding. Dog collapsed again and would not get up. Had to hear the news and make a hard decision away from home. The only blessing is that she went to this kennel for 12 years and loved it. The staff are angels. Her two favorites were with her at the end. But it should have been me. Maybe she thought she was sparing me some pain. Never want to feel this pain about a pet again. She was a sweet dog.

IF all test look good try changing dogs food. I have two dogs both had issues I changed food to core and one had no more seizures and one has them like once every 6 months.

Random six month update. I couldn't bring myself to put him down before I left...I just didn't have enough information and I wasn't ready to let go. I chose to put him on phenobarbital. My folks, in laws, and neighbors kept a better watch over him than I would have expected. No seizures were observed during our cruise. The phenobarbital made him a different dog. Not my dog, more of a zombie. Muted, but never seemed at peace. Would pace from room to room in a relatively confused state. Went from jumping straight into a 3' high bed to refusing to climb pet stairs into it. Couldn't make it around the block on his routine walk without dang near hyperventilating.

This lasted for about four months before I decided to wean him off of the meds, against the advice of my vet. I figured if he was going to go, better to do so in a less vegetative state. Surprisingly he's completely off of any medication and doing well. There are still lingering effects that I doubt will go away, such as refusing to claim pet stairs or jump into the bed like he used to. He now sleeps on the floor or the couch. Still not sure what caused the seizures but hopefully it was something acute and not chronic. I'm looking to start him on CBD oil next week to see if that will provide some relief to a few aches and pains he seems to have.

Regardless, his quality of life is good and that tail still wags like crazy. Here's to hoping for another good year or two...at some point he'll be the last living dog named after Deuce McAllister.

TLDR; dog is doing better than expected, I hope all of your pooches are in the same boat.
