They're not driving twice as fast to deliver in half the time and even if they were, they'd get much better mpg anyway.

They're doing it through reducing the time the package sits in a warehouse waiting to go on the next leg of the trip and by building more distribution centers so the product starts off closer to the customer in the first place. This is why Louisiana will always lag behind other places when it comes to Amazon delivery times. Louisana's arse backwards tax laws mean Amazon won't build a distribution center here. They'd get analraped on inventory taxes every year. Also, the workforce here is less than good, as evidenced by the Baton Rouge delivery center debacle.
