re: What is the purpose of buying insurance on a rental car if you have your own?

I don't buy it because I use my Chase Sapphire Preferred's insurance instead, which is also primary (the Sapphire Reserve and Ink Preferred are similar). Some cards, like Citi's, offer rental insurance that specifically isn't primary insurance. Those aren't as good as Chase's cards.
