frick this douche. Some people just want to stand on top of the world. Some people like climbing with no oxygen. Some folks just want to hang at base camp.
There are tougher climbs. If they’re so caught up in the purity of climbing, they should go do those

Adrian and Cory are good dudes. They’re 100% correct.

Read Boukreev’s book. Krakauer’s version isn’t supported by many who were on the expedition.

I understand the financial impact there and agree with you that the money is vital to the people of the region.

With Adrian running the guide service this year his message seemed to be if you have the experience and the money we will make the climb possible. Without the guide service, most climbers who do have the experience and ability to do it but don't climb full time would not be able to.

Then you understand why it will never change and I dont know that it should outside of trash removal becoming more prevalent(except for the Louisiana flag, if it is still there ).
You know the risks before you land in Kathmandu. The government, sherpas, and outfitters make no guarantees.

There must be a Chick-Fil-A over that ridge.
Rest assured that the line will move fast.
As long as it isn't the College Dr Chik fil A (aka worst run CFA in the country)

Your points are valid, but the Nepal government does not give a single frick so nothing will change.
I think they're finally feeling the international pressure to limit the crowds and waste that are growing on the mountain. Enough people are starting to die and the photos of the litter and stuff are really angering the environmentalist type folk.
They need to, at the very least, limit the count of people ascending to the peak each day.

That looks miserable. At what point do you see that line and say to yourself that this is ridiculous?
10 minutes, and I'd be calling an Uber.

Legit climbers for whom this is a huge goal they take personal pride and interest in. Look at a guy like Alex Honnold, outdoors sports have some people who are willing to risk death to achieve.
Imagine being an actual climber and have to deal with tourists with a spare 11 grand and a need to feel like a big shot.

They mostly climb different routes or from a different country to avoid the masses.
ETA: it appears that there are no expeditions from Tibet currently due to instability in the region.

Everest, despite being the tallest, isn't the most impressive... if these people really want to impress, they need to die on, i mean climb Annapurna or K2
Posted on 5/29/19 at 11:27 am to chRxis
right, dont true climbers consider k2 a much greater accomplishment?

yeah, from what i've read, its a much harder, much more technical climb... it just doesn't have the impressive name recognition that Everest commandeers among people that would be impressed with this sort of thing...

The masses climbing Everest aren’t going to get issued permits to climb K2, Kanchenjunga or Annapurna or Gasherbrum.

More like $70,000 - $80,000
