Seems to me a HEAD coach should be able to tell anyone on his staff what to do. Where is the problem?

When your head coach is clueless on offense.

Depends on what he's telling him to do.
Is he telling him to do his job to the best of his abilities or is he telling him how to do his job?
The way I see it, a former defensive line coach who's never even been a coordinator shouldn't be telling his offensive coordinator how to produce yards and points.
You think the CEO of Ford walks down to the engineering department and starts playing with the engineers CAD programs?
You think the CEO of Bassett Furniture walks down to the shop floor and tells his laborers how to set up the mortising and rabbeting machines?
They set goals. He tells his engineers he wants an SUV that gets 30 mpg on the highway. Now figure it out. He tells his labors he wants a rocking chair that can meet a 5000 count duty cycle. Figure it out.
