Ummm that the guy who was sent to kill Johns mom in the first movie is sent to save John and his mom in the second one?

The fact that there was an obviously evil liquid metal terminator didn't give that away? It was a major plot point, not something like The Sixth Sense. The movie would not have worked otherwise.
