Go to a liquor store with a whisk(e)y tasting table. A $30 bottle can taste better than a $100 bottle depending on your preference. For instance, I do not like a rye-heavy whisky, so I would rather drink a $30 bottle of most bourbons over a $200 bottle of rye-heavy whisk(e)y.

As far a specific recommendation:

Hibiki 17 Year Old (Japanese Whisky) ~$200

I would be very surprised if that is found on any shelf. The Japanese Whisky has dried up in the US
