My thoughts based on our trip in 2011:
1. We did the same tour mentioned above with the snorkeling, pitons, shopping, volcano, etc. It seemed sketchy but turned out to be very nice.
2. Never went to town other than the tour. I'd resort hop. The Grande had the best beach/pool from what I remember.
3. The 9 hole course is nice. I rented clubs and enjoyed it.
4. We reserved a private car for ~80USD and I wish I had spent the money on the helicopter. The car ride almost made me sick and took forever. We took the bus ride back to the airport at the end of the trip and I just remember feeling cramped and uncomfortable with my wife and 8 strangers.
