Prove you wrong? LOL! Why bother? You've already proved what a presumptuous, ill-informed idiot you are!

It's not a one game panic... "Hess appeared in 17 games (16 starts), posting a 7-6 record and a 5.05 ERA in 92.2 innings with 49 walks and 107 strikeouts." That's not an SEC/LSU Friday starter, sorry. Would love to see him coming outta the pen again

Manieri said he’s improved a lot over the offseason. Didn’t see it last night. But give him more time. 1st outing of the year. If he continues to struggle, make him the closer.

You presented wrong but he has had much more success as a closer.

Taking the season totals doesn’t tell the whole story because he wasn’t consistently that “bad”. He was the definition of inconsistent. Meaning the talent and ability is there. So, yes, it could still be in Hess to be a great first-like starter. You don’t know until you let it play out. Which means more than 4 innings on day one.

Hess is an emotional hot thrower. That works well when you are a closer or late relief. It's not as good when you are a starter.

Hess has all the physical tools to be a 7 inning starter - we saw that last year at times. I'm not saying this to crap on the kid, because, he's still a kid... but I'm really starting to think the thing with him is mental, not physical.

He's earned a few weeks to figure it out, and CPM is going to give it to him. But... we have, legtimately, Walker, Marceaux, and Hilliard as three weekend starters. Hess has the potential to be a better starter than all three, but if he can't figure it out, he'll go back to th pen and dominate there.

You’re a savy baseball guy,in all honesty don’t you believe he has more of a closer makeup than a starter?

I don’t think Hilliard will be a weekend starter. I believe Maneiri is fearful of him developing arm problems again. He may be a mid-week starter but with a limited pitch count. I think his role will be middle relief on weekends.

Have people not learned yet that it takes PM a little time to tinker with the lineup ? I’m not even a baseball fan and I know this. The man knows what he’s doing.

Based on everything we’ve seen, of course.

But people are a little too high on this pitching staff because it’s all potential.

Who do you start over him? The two unproven freshman or the unproven guy coming off of TJ who already had one setback?

Any idiot that downvoted the OP needs to show themselves. You're lying to yourself if you think this dude is a starter. He is not. Not even close.

Yeah that’s obviously PM’s dilemma.Hopefully Walker can ease his way back into rotation without another problem

Among the Ranters, there is no room for tinkering. If we don't win all 56 reg season games in blowout fashion, then CPM is an idiot.

Do people realize that Hess was our best starter in SEC play? Even according to the stats. Better than Hilliard who everyone was so high on because of his SEC starts.

He was terrible to start the year and had a couple other rough outings. He was excellent as many times as he struggled and those excellent games came against better competition.

At the pro level, probably true. In college, he’s one of our most experienced big time arm. You need him to give you innings

Let it play out? Guess last years sample size has nothing to do with it. He had some really good games no doubt, but the fact is he had an ERA of over 5 plain & simple. I love the guy & his energy, coming outta the pen that is. What's wrong with being a great closer?

The lineup will have to carry this team early, until CPM can settle on the arms he can trust.

I think the arms are there, just a matter of figuring that out and how long it takes.

Isn’t he coming off a groin injury? Not an excuse but hell, I’ve never had to pitch with one and I can’t imagine it feels any good.

It is game one, can’t know for sure whether or not Hess has or has not improved after one game. I do know he can’t take too long to find his footing in the next two weeks if he wants to be a starter. This team is too loaded.
