My wife's friend got in on the craze...I mean full on selfies showing off her newest additions and whatnot...wound up $12k in the hole and half a garage full of the ugliest clothing you'd ever see.

Turns out that whole 'saturating the market by recruiting your friends and friends of friends' thing really bites you in the arse eventually

Exactly. If I work for any traditional company selling a product, there's a limit to how many new hires I'd be happy with. The only person who benefits from new hires is the person who gets a cut of their sales. Otherwise, each employee's income is going down more and more as new ones come on.
