The # 10 ranked team has as many national titles as the #1 team. Did Clemson just get lucky that their recruits developed so well or was it astute recruiting and great coaching?

Or did they land two incredible quarterbacks?

For all their reruiting prowess BAMA was a couple of plays or so from no titles.

You have to have a great QB or a good one who plays great in the playoffs.

A swing and a miss. Just like Orgeron recruiting linemen.

Like last year when he signed 7 defensive linemen including 5 defensive tackles. If that's a swing and a miss, I'll take it.

DT's:
Chasen Hines
Davin Cotton
Dare Rosenthal
Nelson Jenkins
Dominic Livingston

bama relied too heavily on the QB this season and it cost them in the end. Tua is a hell of a talent but he's still limited when his primary gets shut down.

The “rebuild” excuse has been used since Orgeron took over. I’m pointing out that this “excuse” can no longer be used. (It was always invalid because if you do the 4 years prior to this ranking you will still end up at #3 or #4).

I agree this year is put up or shut up.
But only one team in that top five plays Alabama every year.
A bigger question to me is why can we not retain and develop players ala Clemson, not Alabama. Their recruiting numbers are worse but their finishes are better. And yes, being in the the ACC would help.

He never really faced pressure situations until the SEC title game and the championship game and he didn't handle either very well.

So, in other words, 10-2 should be the floor each year and 11-1 with a loss to Bama shouldn't be "absurd expectations"

I don't think anyone really cares what you want. It's just kinda funny to watch you melt every day.

It is. Reminds me of 2013 season a lot. But we should do better.

“It confirms that it can no longer be used as an excuse. Roger on has had enough time to “rebuild” and this verifies it. If we are “weak” in one position, (I.e., defensive line or Offensive line) it is now 100% on Orgeron. No more excuses.”

Well, I guess, if you think he should be able to field a team of only true freshman and sophomores and dominate. Of course, 2/3 of that score is from 25 guys that haven’t even seen a spring game yet.

I do think it tells us that the program appears to be pointed in the right direction, though.

The explanation is quite simple.

Alabama has more paying members on 24/7 than Clemson. Until Clemson ponies up and makes large gains in membership they will never finish ahead of Bama in recruiting.

Badly kick their arse on the field - YES. Finish ahead of them in recruiting on 24/7 - NO WAY IN HELL. Even though they have proven on the field to have better players.

If Clemson wants the recruiting MNC they need to pony up. Somehow I don't think the program or fans give a shite about their recruiting rankings.

True - as long as you ignore the attrition that happens. If a team loses two five star recruits from the same class, does that class keep its high ranking?

We lost a ton on defense in 2013

Mingo, Monty, Logan, Minter, edwards, Reid , Downs and Therald Simon.

Should be much better on defense this year than 2013.

That Oklahoma and Ohio St schedule though. And Clemson for that matter. I'm not making excuses, we should win more and it's playoffs/championship game or bust this year, but what OK, Oh St, and Clemson have to do to get to the playoffs and what we have to do is not the same. It's not even close to the same, actually.
