My wife and I got married in the Catholic church and had to do premarital counseling. It was a PITA but looking back on it now, 8 years later, it was well worth it. We still mention every now and then some things we were "taught" during that weekend, mostly in a joking way but there is always some seriousness to our comments.

I would recommend it since it forces the couple to have conversations every engaged couple should have already had.
