"You're afraid for her, you truly care about what happens to her but you really don't know if she can pull this off because the movie hasn't presented her as some kind of Superhero." - On Ripley in Aliens
Sums it up perfectly and modern cinema with women kung fu MMA kicking the crap out of muscled guys is just as to blame. Just look at that Charlize Theron movie Atomic Blonde.
A really good H.S. men's basketball team would beat the National Champion UCONN Huskies easily and women can't fight for shite unless they are cyborg and pumped full of testosterone.
See men have testosterone lots of it, women have small tiny amounts.
Hollywood needs to go back to women having weaknesses and danger meaning something and that are more fragile.
(side note) - they show Ripley being motherly in trying to save Newt. That would probably not happen today. That's a sign of weakness to the modern SJW movement.

You aren't going to start posting about how you are an "InCel" and all the women need to die because they aren't willing to have sex with you right?
It is a fantasy. I can buy a woman hero with flaws as easily as I can buy a male hero with flaws. Give me a good movie and a good story and I can buy whatever they put up there.
And yes... I think the new Star Wars trilogy is garbage. I would have thought it was garbage if the lead actor was Hugh McBallsdraggy.
A movie can be garbage and not feature any SJW stereotypes. And a movie can be garbage and be littered with them.

This is so spot on. Aliens Ripley should be the architype female "heroes" are based on now.
Why is that that film is such a hit with males? It's because we didn't see it as some kind of fantasy or something impossible by a female. She had experience, guile, and intelligence and braveryz but it was obvious she was terrified and her phycial traits weren't embellished for the sake of it.
I also always thought Sandahl Bergman in Conan was a great portrayal of a great female action movie hero, too.
First off, she was actually athletically built, and not a rail thin actress a la Theron, plus she used small swords, thievery techniques, and a bow and arrow to do her damage. She didn't overpower any of the brutes in that movie at all.
And third, she showed great vulnerability. All she wanted was to be a woman to Conan and leave the life of crime and killing and brutality.
And no one batted an eye at how she was portrayed. No one cared and even though that's one of the most testosterone filled movie ever she fit in perfect.

I had some massive eye rolling moments watching tiny Charlize with hands the size of a 10 year old knocking out 6'2" dudes with ease. It really ruined the movie. I don't care how hard she supposedly could throw a punch there simply isn't enough mass behind it to do any damage.
As to Rey, it's obvious that this whole "the force is female" b.s. was a ploy to increase market share amongst women. They didn't expect the real SW fanbase to expect an actual decent story. They thought all of the SW fans were just a bunch of sheep they could lead around by the nose. And I don't think they managed to materially increase their female fanbase, either. It really was just an incompetent execution by Disney and they ruined a lot of characters that I grew up loving in the process.
And the new WW is garbage.

I think this is a really bad example. She gets her arse kicked a couple of times in this movie. Plus, she used her environment more than her muscles during the fights.
I don’t know why this subject of women kicking arse in movies is so touchy on this board.
I get the greater point being made though about women’s roles being defeminized by this SJW movement.

Spot on.
A hero that never seems to believably be in danger is dull and uninteresting. You aren't worried abour their safety because THEY aren't worried about their safety.
This is why I never really liked Peirs Brosnan as Bond. He's TOO cool. He never breaks a sweat. He can be huddled down in the back of a car, driving it like a rally car champion from his smart phone, while thousands of rounds are pummeling the car and he isn't the slightest bit scared. He's emotionless.
Compare that to Daniel Craig's Bond. His emotions are more evident, especially in Casino Royale. Hell, he almost dies from poison and looks like it!
It's also why John McClain from Die Hard is a more interesting character than John Rambo for me. Rambo is SO badass that he just moves like a machine from kill to kill. Sure, he shows some anger, and he's a very badass and likeable hero.
But McClain is an "everyman" scared shitless and letting you know it the whole time. His triumph's over his fear and adversity MEAN MORE than all the kills that Rambo flawlessly performs.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Rambo films and character. But for me, I rank Die Hard above them.
