I have an HDHomeRun and Plex setup

quote:

Wife and I will watch one and Plex can have the other on the off chance we watch something and record it.

We rarely watch real tv. On the order of a handful of times a year.

Ok, it sounds like you and your wife are just like me and my girlfriend. We don't ever watch TV separately. We mostly watch stuff I add to Plex or other streaming services. But sometimes there are occasions we want to watch something on live antenna TV. Mostly live sports or TV specials. Okay, we only ever really use it for football and to accumulate Jeopardy! episodes, I'll be honest.

My Plex server is running on an Intel i7-3770 from around 2012, that I got second-hand for free, running Linux.

I fretted about which HDHomeRun to get but I ended up going for cheap and got the HDHomeRun Duo for $90 at BestBuy, thinking that if it didn't work well for me, I could just return it for store credit and purchase the Quatro or Extend instead.

The reality is for our situation there are NEVER going to be three things airing at the same time we care to see. We just don't care that much about watching any TV series as it airs. We make TV work around our life schedules and don't care what everyone else in the world is watching, which means I typically download TV shows way after they're aired whenever we get around to watching a series. So, we've never remotely felt limited by the cheap $90 2-tuner HDHomeRun Duo. I don't regret going the cheap route at all.

Anyone have issues with interlacing during live sports? I’m using a Fire TV with Plex and a quatro, but it’s bad enough that I switch direct to an antenna for football games. I also get a lot of buffering on recorded programming. Not sure if it’s the server, the router, or the streaming device causing the issues.
