For you youngsters out there: #53 was one of LSU’s most fearsome LBs.
Some of the best “football smarts” to ever play for our Tigers.
1963 Draft: Detroit. The [then Baltimore] Colts wanted him, went after him, and made the deal w/ the Lions in 1965.
6’ 2” / 232 -- that’s a pretty decent size, even today.
In 1963, that was BIG.
And he was fast, too (although, sadly, not fast enough to catch Matt Snell before the goal line in Super Bowl 3).
After 1962 Orange Bowl LSU 25 Colorado 7 (Dietzel's last game, IIRC) --
#14 = QB (and later, sports agent) Jimmy Field:

vs Jim Taylor 1965 Playoffs:
w/ Bill Curry 1967 (the SAME Bill Curry who outcoached Mike Archer in 1987 vs Gumps, and ruined LSU’s NC hopes that year -- it was LSU’s only loss that season; Gumps went 7-4 & lost to Michigan in the HoF Bowl).

Outstanding. Thanks for putting that together. Before my time, but I love the history.

One of the best posts I’ve seen on TD.
