The school is an arm of the government, not a private employer protecting its brand. Student should win the court case...9-0 if it goes to the Supremes.

He’s arguing for a girl to be able to exercise her free speech rights by not being forced to say a national pledge. How’s that not American?

A government school that requires kids to pledge allegiance to the nation's flag has always struck me as un-American.

It sounds like something Nazis or Commies would require of their kids to brainwash them to support zee fazzerland.

And it's not a very meaningful pledge if it is forced by the government.

He’s a hell of a lot more American than all the fascists running around wanting to punish people for exercising the rights they have as citizens.

Kinda like putting your hand on some stupid fake arse book before testifying in court or being sworn in as POTUS.

I have never really liked the pledge. It feels...1984ish to me. If not in the military or a politician..should be pushed to pledge alliegence to an authority.

Based on the fact that her mother is named Kizzy...

She should be allowed to kneel in protest...

...only if her grandfather is named Kunta Kinte.

We shouldn't force patriotism. The gubmint should earn it and it has been a while since they have done anything to deserve it.

Dumb.. That school just reinforced that behavior. You shouldn't be forced to stand for the pledge in any government institution. Now kneeling for the national anthem in the NFL? That's on them to make the rules, but I'll just say they definitely don't know their consumers well at all.

We had people like this growing up. They were called jahovahs witnesses. Not sure what the school district was thinking.

It seems one branch of Texas govt disagrees.

Too bad they are still subject to the First Amendment and the Supreme Court.

How can school administrators be this stupid?

why the hell is she sitting for the pledge?
She probably doesn’t even know

I wonder this as well. Yeah, I know it's probably not relevant. It's her right to sit. But I would love to hear her response to this.

I've gotten to the point where I don't even know what the NFL kneelers are protesting.

I say good for her.

The idea of a "Pledge of Allegiance" to a government is creepy as hell.

The fact that they are compelling speech, the very same thing that our Republic is supposed to be against, makes it even worse.

As they should. You don't want to be here, you are free to leave.

I never understood why some people would rather leave than try and fix what they see as wrong. Seems very un-American.
