What’s the backstory here?
Her and her flight lead were scrambled to intercept flight 93 after they lost contact with the cockpit. Unfortunately they did not have time to arm the F-16 Vipers before they took off so the only course of action they had to bring it down was to ram the airliner's control surfaces with their wings and hope to have time to eject after impact. The passengers brought the plane down before they could intercept.

I remember hearing about her probably 2 years ago and I couldn't understand how it wasn't a more well known story.
She and her flight lead took off knowing full well they didn't have any option to take it down other than to ram it.
They are heroes in my book

can anyone in the military tell me why these jets wouldn't readily be loaded for instances like this or any other attack for that matter? what if a foreign country has decided to say, "that's enough of the the US, WE COMIN'".
how are we not ready for something like that?

That was one of the more alarming things about 9/11 for me. The people responsible for defending the entire eastern seaboard couldn't muster one armed fighter aircraft fast enough to respond to a surprise air attack.

They definitely could've done this successfully and survived IMO.
