I wonder if WaPo will be printing a retraction or if they will try to be like CNN and justify their political hit piece.

State Department pushes back on report about Hispanics being denied passports

quote:

The State Department is pushing back against a news report saying the Trump administration has ramped up efforts to deny passports to Hispanics who have U.S. citizenship but are suspected of possibly having fraudulent birth certificates.

In a statement to Fox News on Thursday, a State Department spokeswoman blasted the Washington Post over the story, saying passport denials in these cases are actually at a six-year low after peaking in 2015 during the Obama administration.

“The facts don’t back up the Washington Post’s reporting. This is an irresponsible attempt to create division and stoke fear among American citizens while attempting to inflame tensions over immigration,” said Heather Nauert, a State Department spokeswoman. “Under the Trump Administration, domestic passport denials for so called ‘midwife cases’ are at a 6-year low. The reporting is a political cheap shot.”

According the Post, both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations denied passports to people delivered by midwives in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley. The government has long believed fraudulent U.S. birth certificates have been given to babies along the border who were actually born in Mexico.

Silence in regards to falsehood is an implicit acceptance of it, IMO. It's not like we can expect journalists to correct themselves in a timely and objective manner.

B/c it forces everyone to have to defend their position on literally anything they say. It's a waste of time and energy and the papers get to control the narrative.......regardless of if said narrative is true.

If your neighbor was bad mouthing you, you'd tell him off initially. Then if he continues to bad mouth you, you'd start laughing and not even respond. That's how I see this situation except they are STILL having to respond.

bullshite, especially considering who you are responding to

and while I agree with Hemphead; I can see the point

sometimes it is better to ignore fallacious attacks on the "he doth protest too much" principle

but when the lugenpresse pushes false information; facts need to be presented

especially in an election year

so yeah, I disagree with idle; but he's not the guy I'm going there with...

Except this involves the administration of the President of the United States and a news paper that is seen by millions. Somewhat different in stature even though your simple mind doesn't see it that way.

WaPo says that these cases are “surging” (possible hyperbole). Administration says they are at an all-time low (possible hyberpole).

Maybe each of them can give us the raw data, and we can conduct a reasoned analysis, rather than relying upon characterization by two sources that significant numbers of Americans distrust.

But neither of them did that. Until they do, I will be working on the inference that both are fudging.

let's say they are both fudging

that means cases like this are comparable to when Jug Ears was in office

so, whether State is being truthful, or their version and the WaPo version are both inflated; it means that WaPo is pushing fake news

no, I do not blindly trust State (or any gub-mint agency); but I think it is highly improbable that they would come out with this type of statement without some data that could back them up on hand

bottom line?

WaPo = fake news

Rolling over for your political and ideological enemies is the epitome of cuckservatism. “Why is the state department fighting back against lies ;_; fact checking the fact checkers? That is just too much. Democracy dies in darkness”

Each is probably relying upon a different data point. E.g. maybe State is relying upon passport denials and WaPo is relying upon revocations of existing passports.

Each will assert that they are correct and the other is being dishonest.

Truth? Probably not much overall change in the last three or four administrations.

Every single day we get more evidence of the media's complete lack of accountability during the Obama administration and completely caress and integrity-free agenda to take Trump down no matter what

fair point

I agree, and if this is true, then WaPo is definitely guilty of creating a story where one should not exist

and that is one of the things we mean when we say fake news
