Four Dual Threat Quarterbacks have left LSU since Coach took over. Many will say that they weren't good enough, but is that true??

Maybe the scheme doesn't fit their playing style! I know Coach O keeps talking about opening up the offense, but what have you seen they make you think he will? Coach O is working on his second OC in just two years. Looks like to me the old Head Coach doesn't know jack about offense.

He should stop recruiting DT Quarterback!!

He clearly knows what type of QB he wants, so stop lying to the media and the players about a spread and RPO's!

Harris
Scott
Lowell
McMillan

You can run both without a dual threat QB

RPO's arent just QB runs. Generally they are RB runs with the QB reading an outside backer or safety. If the person they key commits to run they pull it and throw the ball. It's about getting numbers tilted in your favor.

You realize Dual threat means they can run and throw right? The QBs you listed can only run and sucked at passing. I love how people look at the label dual threat and think that it means all they can do is run. Deshaun Watson, Jamies Winston, stidham, Tua, Drew Brees (in college), Mariota, Tannehil, Dak, etc were all Dual threat QBs. You’re a moron if you think LSU will stop recruiting Dual threat QBs because of their past failures recruiting the position. They need someone to develop QBs, end of story.

I think it's a problem with how they are used at LSU because they don't have these issues at other schools, only LSU, so it definitely has to do with the coaching and what Miles and Cameron and now Orgeron and Ensminger have had them doing.

What makes you say Harris and McMillan were Dual Threats? Harris was definitely a pro-style passer. He hardly ever ran. The game losing interception against Wisconsin was a classic case. He had a great opportunity to run, but didn't.

I would say that Burrow is much more of a dual threat than Harris, probably McMillan too.

McMillan, and Scott never had a shot at starting here. Looks like Lowell didn’t really either. In college football now a days guys who can at least run the ball decentley, generally do better. Recruit the best guy no matter what, but a guy who can run gives you versatility back there which I like. 3rd and 10, play is broke, open gap up the middle, a QB with some speed finds the first down. It’s a lot more helpful than one night think.

the dual threats we recruit end up with an inaccurate arm and the inability to check down. Mcmillan and scott were not big time sec qb's. Lowell left without giving himself the chance to be molded. harris was given more than ample opportunity and we realized he'd be better off playing intramural flag.

The funny thing about "dual threat" qbs, is that the vast majority of them aren't very good at passing the ball. Most of them want to make plays with their legs because thats their instinct. Then the coaches try to get them to think pass first and it just clashes with what they want to do instinctually.

Give me Rohan, Flynn, Mauck and guys like that all day over a dual threat. They were guys that new the offense and were athletic but also new what the objective was and never panicked. They were also upper class men.

You can run an RPO offense with a pro style or dual threat QB. You clearly dont understand what an RPO offense is.

Fact is these days more QBs can run at least a little than ever before. Brennan even ran for like 1000 yards in high school. There's becoming less and less of a distinction between "pro style" and "dual threat".

Burrow has ability to run from the QB position and he will a few times a game probably. Danny Etling had a knack for taking off at times and he certainly wasn't terrible at getting a few yards on the ground.

I'm a firm believer that the only way a dual threat quarterback can be effective is he must be a pass first qb. In my opinion, a dual threat qb must be able to complete at least 60% of his passes to be effective. These type of players are few and far between.

Narcisse is the only one of these who was signed after O became head coach and he was being recruited while Miles was still HC.

I'm no coach, but several posters have expressed my thoughts. It's stupid to recruit any quarterback who can't throw, no matter what offense is being run, unless there's no passing at all. If a team signs a running quarterback, they should be thinking there's enough arm talent to work with. If they can't make an accurate passer and good decision maker out of him, it's a wasted scholarship and he'll wind up leaving. Gee, where have we seen that?

We can't develop dual threat QBs. We can't develop pro style QBs.

Mahomes was dual threat.

Mahomes passed for over 5000 yards his last year at TTU.

Mahomes rushed for a whopping 2.2 yard average and 200 yards.

A good dual threat can wing it.

Most college QBs dont pan out.
