All Gates' needs to know is software. He could literally be a young earth creationist and still make the same successful product. When it comes to economics he is not an authority.

Paul Krugman has a PhD in economics, received a Noble prize in economics, and is recognized as a authority on economics, yet I wouldn't pay a dime for his advice on any matter of business or economics, I would pay a pretty large sum to hear what Gates has to say on various economic topics.
