Ok, so what I would do is live in Washington (avoid Oregon State income tax) but live just north of Portland.

Imo everything you like to do is a bit closer to Portland. Vancouver has high real estate prices but you can live in a smaller town like Woodland or Battleground. Cheaper homes and no traffic.

This is if you can find a job in Vancouver. You don't want to do the commute to Portland. It's insane. Your wife is close to Portland and only 140 miles from Seattle.
