I think they are looking more at mismatches in coverage than a pure blocking tight end. Think of Sullivan, etc. lining up with a line backer on him. I think it's more for the recieving than blocking.

seems like one more excuse by Coach O to have a losing season.

Your argument is stupid

TE is not considered all that valuable on the hierarchy of available roster spots

Our best tight end goes down with injury weeks before fall camp and it will have an impact on depth.

Your contention is "well if we had better depth this wouldn't be a problem"

OK fine. But then you'd likely have more tight ends than desirable and have depth issues in more important areas.

You just want to complain because you love to complain.

This is a bad take Bil Josephus. We all wanted Herman, the search sucked, but now that Orgeron is here, let’s at least be fair. Y’all want him to be totally hands-off on the offensive side of the ball, correct?

And I think moving Stevens was probably due to recruiting promises he was given to get on the field as a freshman. However, despite being highly ranked, turns out when he gets on campus, he’s not as good of a football player as some of the guys in front of him. Hell, it looks like he was the 3rd best safety in his own class behind Delpit and Harris.

You’re still hung up on your ignorant straw man notion that someone has suggested carrying double digit tight ends.

The coaching staff allocated 6 spots to the position and now they’re moving someone else for a 7th. If 3 of the original 6 can’t play, as the coaching staff seems to think and as originally pointed out by the most esteemed poster in this thread, then the 7th should have been moved prior to this week.

No one is suggesting carrying 18 TEs. They merely said if the situation is now so dire, after one injury, then you probably needed the one (1 not 6) extra player two months ago as well.

Right, because our third string TE was injured earlier this offseason.

Besides, more of that vaunted WR talent on the field at once, the better.

Another bad take, especially before we actually see how they’re gonna be used. We have a plethora of WR, and with Pettigrew out, not as many pass catching TEs. It doesn’t mean that 3 of the 6 can’t play—just that they’re probably more blockers—an extra OL in run packages and don’t pose the receiving threat or mismatch that someone like Sullivan on a LB would. They may have made a move like this regardless of Petigrew’s injury just to create said mismatches. Let’s save the hysterics until we actually see Sullivan lined up during goal line trying to block DLs, shall we, ladies?

I think the depth was probably fine until Pettigrew got hurt. He got hurt 2 weeks before our first practice.

We will have Moreau, Washington, Moss, and unless they switched him back to defense, Moffitt. I think these four will suffice.

Whatever the need or the role is, 3 of the 6 can’t fill it or they wouldn’t need to move someone there. There is a “void” at TE and they need to find players to fill it, those are Coach Orgeron’s terms not mine.

I really liked Zach Sheffer's HS film and think he'll be pretty good, but I do see him playing more H-back. He's a good blocker and finisher who also lined up in the backfield.

I think this notion comes from the loss of Pettigrew a couple of weeks ago.

They all look to be missing about 30lbs of weight to do that.

Foster may be a good leader in the locker room, but he is not the answer at TE. Foster can't create any separation from an LB and at best only good for check downs.

I don't think LSU has to move any of these kids to TE, they just have never had the ball really thrown to them with any kind of regularity to use their great size advantage to make plays happen. Hopefully, this season will be the season it finally happens, Ensminger claims that all WR's will be involved in the offense, so, we'll see. Maybe, Sullivan, but all of them can catch the ball, I've seen it in limited playing time for them, but it needs to happen a whole lot more. Get the ball out to them, especially, in the red zone where they are one on one with a tiny CB that's helpless against their size. Get it up in the air and let them come down with it.

Its going to be Sullivan unfortunately... hes the biggest of the bunch.. when it should be Drake or Dee... Id put Dee there...but if we dont utilize their height in the passing game.. Ill quit watching... It took the life out of me not watching Russell Sheperd get the ball..

Jacory Washington is a capable TE that has hardly been used in his LSU career, and that is fricking crazy imo. Kid was a top pass catching TE coming out of high school, yet, he goes to LSU and his career is in the lost and hope to be found section. LOL

There's only one way to find out. I have seen Washington catch the ball on rare occasions last season, I just think they don't use him because of the blocking schemes that Moreau is always in on. I'm surprised Washington never transferred out of LSU.
