The only problem to me is that he seems to have been accused of those offenses but never actually convicted in a court of law.

I'd be a little skeptical of a criminal conviction there considering there's no jury trial, verdicts are determined by a panel of judges, and testimony from two Muslim men. Testimony from non Muslims or Muslims from a sect they don't like can be ignored and testimony from women is not allowed at all. Also take into consideration they can arrest you and impose punishment for things such as witchcraft and heresy.
