Recruiting is all about HC prestige, facilities and hype.

Winning never hurts recruiting, and losing rarely helps.

LSU won the SEC in 2001 and had from from a 3 win team to winning 8 and 10 games he next two years.

Saban is Saban. He was going to recruit well no matter wht.

Urban was one of the most respected coaches in football in 2006. He had just gonna defeated at Utah.

And UGA did pretty good in 2017 on the field.

Yes you can recruit without winning, but winning makes it a lot easier, and makes your HC more respected.

Needing a talent infusion plays into the hands of the guys selling the instability of a program/coach. “Yea he needs you cause he’s not winning/competing for championships. You know what happens when the coach isn’t competing for championships right?” Those top notch coaches aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. This is HUGE for a kid and his family. You might LOVE the coach but if someone plants that seed of doubt that the coach you love may be gone by your second year well it’s hard to NOT think that the other programs with stable coaching are equal if not better options. When all else is equal between programs this may be the tipping point for a kid and his family to choose one school over the other.

Fair point. I believe that a perceived coaching instability issue is what ultimately pushed Surtain to Bama.

horrible examples. Saban had already won a championship and coached in the NFL. Meyer was an emerging name, and Tebow was more responsible for that class than Meyer.

Man what a shite show this board is. I wouldn't think anyone on this board would disagree that recruiting, just like wining evolves from several different aspect or things that must all come together. No its not just wining, its the Head Coach, the assistant coaches, the facilities, the presentation, the wining, the individual recruit and how he envisions his recruitment, the recruits parents and sometime the recruits friends and or girl friends. Its all that shite, so please stop with all this, this is the reason, that is the reason, lets kill the tiger, fire the coach, go to another state etc. its all of the above for the most part. Oh and by the way the kids read this message board and most don't want to play for a fan base that is ready to blow their fricking head off every other hour, or because they heard some fuking rumor they didn't like. Please just stop this shite.

Several examples prove its winning in February is the cause of winning in the subsequent fall.

Saban in 2001 (best LSU class since the 80’s)
Saban 2008 (best bama class since 90’s)
Myer 2006 (best Florida class since 90’s)
Smart 2017 (best Georgia class ever)

2008 Saban, only a few years prior, won 2 conference championships and a national championship, and sent players to the NFL. Speaking of which, he was just an NFL HC. That does everything to get recruits to come to you. Let's not forget he was already a recruiting beast at LSU.

Meyer in 2006 actually did win in 2005. Meyer finished 9-3 which was the best record they had since Steve Spurrier was there in 2001. He was also undefeated at the swamp, something Zook didn't come close to doing in his 3 years there. Oh yeah, just the year prior he took a Utah team to an undefeated season, and his QB became the #1 overall draft pick.

Smart in 2017 had already had deep connections in Georgia from his time coaching at Bama. Guy had a treasure box full of championship rings and years of top defenses and sending guys to the first round.

These guys came from success, recent success at that. They showed that they could be great AND send you to the NFL.

Stop the narrative of LSU needs to win on the field to out-recruit these teams. Never has been true and never will be!!!!

Ed's already had his class my guy. People keep forgetting, but Ed was the HC for EIGHT GAMES prior to his first full year. His first actual class was 2018 and it was the worst class LSU had in over a decade. Meyer, Saban, and Smart actually had beyond great classes after their first full year as you stated, Ed 0 didn't.

LSU NEEDS to win on the field to out-recruit them. This isn't always the case, but it is definitely the case here. If LSU has a season where they go 7-5 or similar, you can bet your arse recruiting will feel the effects. We've already missed our chance on gullible kids buying in to the process of a new HC. Georgia and Bama are going to both have classes over 300 while LSU has never had a class over 300. This year we have much more talent than usual in state, but if you think we come close to UGA and Bama without being a national juggernaut recruiting program, you're crazy. That first starts with wins on the field to prove ourselves.

You did a fabulous job of driving all my points home. LSU doesn’t have the right head coach!!!!!!!!!!!!

If O was the answer, the 2018 class would like the classes described in op.

LSU won’t win anything meaningful this year or in any year with this formula!
