re: Will baseball cards from the 80’s-90’s ever be worth anything?

Right now I am trying to hit some Derrius Guice cards because I think he will do well but if you get a chance, look up "Immaculate" and "Guice" on ebay. There are some filthy LSU patches out there on that product. Trust me...check it out, great stuff for an LSU or Guice fan.

I love these threads. I get to reminisce about my card days. I was slinging kobe Bryant tops chrome rc's, graded, for 1800+. I'd take a gram scale and weigh out packs and find the ones with inserts in them. Most satisfying score was walking into a Hudson's and dining about 10 Barry Sanders rc's for ten cents a piece when they were going for around 80 each at the time

If I’m looking to score some of those types of immaculate cards what brand boxes should I buy? Or any of the good cards nowadays and can you point me in the right direction to purchase? I haven’t bought cards in years.

Well as the usual goes, there are a flurry of Collegiate heavy issues early on. The Immaculate cards are some of the higher end early releases that have nasty patches, autos, etc...Immac College are one of my fav cards each year. The price is very high though. You can buy some online...boxes/cases(in this instance 5 boxes per case) OR you can get the individual cards or try your luck on some break sites, or perhaps try a local card shop. Immac is a Hobby Only release so you have to go that route to get them as they will not be in Wal-Mart nor Target but as you can see there is some really rare and impressive cards for the taking in these sets. All the cards are serial numbered and limited to 99 or less so if you want to give it a try, those are the routes I would go.
If you have not purchased cards in a while, their price might come as a shock to you but you might snag a monster 1/1 card worth thousands right off as well. Either way, it is a fun product for Collegiate collectors in particular. Some decent NFL releases are coming out soon too but I love me some Immac College personally.

I’ve got about 100 of this bastard. I believe Donruss inserted one in each pack.

no. there was an over saturation of basic cards but the industry adapted and started putting jerseys and bats from players of today and in the past as inserts.
Plenty of valuable Babe Ruth jersey cards out there worth hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. Amongst many other players.

This card was in the Supplemental set for the 90 Score so it wasn't as widely distributed as others. Seems to be holding the value pretty well.
I actually paid $15 for the guy to break the factory set and give me this card. He only wanted $20 for the whole factory supplemental set. There were a few other good cards in that set. I was a dumbass.
The good news is that the Emmitt Smith card is still in the hard case that I put it in the day I got it.

Who should I contact for this?

Most are probably junk but there are cards from those years that are worth a pretty penny.

Everyone who was a kid during that time probably still has their collection somewhere. I know I do..
Same here. Jose Canseco needs to murder someone so his cards will go back up like they were in 1990.

I was a huge collector of basketball and Marvel cards in the late 80s and early 90s when I was a kid. Spent tons of money completing the 1992 Marvel Masterpiece series. It was an "investment" and at the time, a full set went for $500.
Now you can buy an entire set and all the special cards for $20. Still, I love them and still have them to this day. Pure nostalgia.

Who couldn't wait until they got this in the mail every month? For about five years in a row, a subscription was one of my birthday presents.
At one point, I would say I have about six monster boxes of cards; I'd say it had to have been around 250,000 to 300,000 cards. Around 1999, I went through them all, saved the ones that were good or I liked, and sold the rest off to some dealer. I think out of the 250,000, I held on to about 2,500 of them.
My son started collecting around 2011 or so. Not serious...just a pack here and there. Basically there is only Topps left anyway. I gave him all of my 80's and 90's cards I had left. On occasion I'll get a good player from the 50's, 60's, and 70's as long as it isn't too expensive (in other words not mint). He really likes the old ones. I reckon one day his kids will end up with them.

Took all mine to a card shop (It was about 20 boxes of cards and 10 or so unopened boxes of packs), the guy wasn't interested in any of them other than the unopened boxes. The mid 80s to mid 90s the companies flooded the market with cards so the only rarities are mistake cards. I was told NBA cards were worth a bit more but not much.

Ebay-Wally Whitehurst card
Is this card really worth this much? He is in my restaurant every day and I may need to bust his balls about this

Yeah I looked on eBay and they have some sweet cards on there. My 11 year old is interested in them too. He wants LSU players of course. They have Fournette/Guice jersey card and a Chark large patch $19 for both of them. Is that a good price for those? That’s what it’s listed at.

I have that exact card.
I'm still hoping my Donruss Jose Canseco Rated Rookie will be worth something one day.

It was. About $100 circa 1988.
Sorta like my 85 McGuire Olympic cards that were going for about $150 at their peak. They are probably about $6 now, lol.
