I feel like if we hold onto Travinksi, Phillips, Doughty, and one of Cairo/Hampton/Lewis/Hinds it will be a very solid win. I expect Espino's chances are close to 0.

I can’t figure out for the life of me why Mainieri would withdraw the scholarship offer to Jacob Scherer. He’s a really good ball player. Him and Simon and one other kid carried that team to the state championship game two years in a row.

The Athletic just did a write up on some of the top LSU commits, so I thought I'd share:

quote:

Maurice Hampton, OF, Memphis University HS: Hampton is one of the very best athletes in the class and is committed to play both baseball and football at LSU. That makes him a risk for teams on draft day, as they must be absolutely sure on his signability. He’s nonetheless attractive due to his power, speed, and arm tools, all earning 60-grades, though his game approach can be raw. He’s very much a high risk/high reward type. Projection: late first round.

quote:

Rece Hinds, 3B, IMG Academy: Another LSU recruit, Hinds features tremendous raw power, at least 70-grade and perhaps 75, near the top of the scale. He also has a strong throwing arm, but his defense needs work. Of greater concern are his pure hitting skills: he has a lot of problems with contact and pitch recognition, generating enough doubts to push him down behind other hitters. That said, the power is very, very loud. Projection: late first round or early second.

quote:

Daniel Espino, RHP, Georgia Premier Academy, Statesboro, Georgia: Espino is a great contrast with Leiter. Originally from Panama, Espino is much less experienced on the diamond than Leiter and needs work with his command and changeup, but his 94-99 MPH fastball is the best prep heater in the draft and his slider flashes plus. Committed to LSU, he could go anywhere from spots 20 to 40 in the draft.

That’s what I’m thinking.

It would be unthinkable and a huge get to keep 1 of Espino, Hampton, and Hinds.

It would be great to get 3-4 of Travinksi, Doughty, Cairo, Torres, Phillips, and Lewis.

If anyone is drafted by the Diamondbacks don’t for a second get your hopes up, they have an ungodly amount of money this draft.
