Everything that happened in this film changed the characters.
I'll agree to a point

Luke is now a hopeless hermit that dies like a bitch

Snoke, the big bad built up in he first mo- and he's dead

Remember Phasma, she changed into a nothing burger and dies hilariously

Leia is so worthless she gets replaced by a chick who's only leadership quality is what? Misandry and lesbianism?

Leia fricking Poppins? The force revives her and flies her back to her ship or whatever? A power nobody has EVER been known to possess. In a character who has never shown any active propensity to use the force? At the very least, that's some full on Mary Sue bullshite.

So I guess there is your change. Leia has gone from supremely competent rallying force for the Galactic Rebellion. To incompetent demagogue who suddenly becomes the most powerful force user the universe has ever known, just out of the blue.

Finn went from burgeoning heroic icon, to a guy that will leave slave children to frick themselves but will save the space horses.

Poe changed from competent and capable pilot, to cocky douchebag who only cares abou being the hero in his own eyes.

Hux goes from being a legit calculating villain, do a laughably incompetent little who-gives-a-shite character.

So yeah. . .lots of changes

Incompetent How?

Her plan put in place worked, until Poe's little mutiny and plan to be the heroic figure of the resistance fricked it all up.

If Poe would have trusted those who he had enough faith in to join up with knew what they were doing, the resistance gets safely to that planet with the New Order thinking they've all been destroyed.

Poe's arc is that he learns you don't always have to fight head on to win.
