Same here in Highland Creek ~2002. I heard pop pop pop, and BOOM. I ran inside telling the wife It sounded like someone came to the shootout with a pistol and got blasted by a shotgun.
That's EXACTLY what the paper read the next day. Except they had terrible aim and missed all 4 shots. And both went to jail.

About 2 minutes after this incident there was nothing but sirens off in the distance for the next 15 minutes.
I've heard some others that sounded even further off in the distance at night. I think I might be able to hear them from that little ghetto on S Harrells Ferry and O'Neal. These were much less audible though. My wife heard them too and looked at me and said "that's gunshots". That's a little under 2 miles away.
A lot of this probably factors on wind direction etc.
I think he thought that I was saying something negative about Woodland Ridge which I most certainly wasn't. I live there
