First: congrats on coming out yourself.

Second, I'll be honest. That's a potentially clever/nice way to help your friend out. But FWIW, be it coming out or admitting/accepting some other momentous thing in life, I'd appreciate a simple, "Hey, my dude. I know about [insert issue]. Do what you want, but know you're my bro and it's cool with me." That, as opposed to just forcing him into the spotlight like that. Then again, some people need that prod, and maybe you know your friend better than he himself does.

I'd apologize for putting him on the spot but leave it with asking him to be honest with himself and you, and let him know it's all good. And also, here's a beer. With a penis drawn on it.
