The defense probably isn't that different but Carroll is more proven as a usable offensive player. The problem with Carroll is he's at that age and injury history where he'll be declining. Even if you keep him more cheaply long term than Solo, a declining slight upgrade doesn't seem like a fix worth giving up a draft pick or young prospect like Diallo for.
