Maybe this kid could have been helped, maybe not. But your 'solution' is to just not even try? Just throw up your hands and say "frick it"?

It should be obvious that although evil things happen nearly everywhere, it is more concentrated in some parts of the world than others. To me that says society plays a big role in how much bad stuff happens, so we can do something about it. We just have to give a shite.
