Actually, the Republicans decided local control isn't such a good idea and stripped all cities ability to regulate Uber, lyft or taxis. Austin only wanted Uber and Lyft to provide driver finger prints and undergo a background check but Uber and Lyft refused. State republicans stepped in to put a stop to this injustice. Interesting side note is the state Republicans require me to be finger printed and undergo a background check for my state liscense even though I don't deal with the general public.

Thanks for everybody who took the time to reply but I think I will have a change of plan and spend most of my time in Canada.

The way I have been treated and the xenophobia I have faced on other parts of this forum have put me off visiting America and especially the south.

My flights are non refundable so will have to fly to Miami and back from Los Angeles but will only spend one or two days in these places.

I don’t know if it is the trump effect over there but I have been shocked at the abuse I have received. Not what I imagined when I hear the phrase ‘southern hospitality’.

Have a good day.
